Kaiser Permanente’s Caton Hill Medical Center: September, 2022

On September 19th, 2022, the Kaiser Permanente Caton Hill Medical Center opened, replacing the Woodbridge Medical Center with a new 245,000-square foot medical center in Prince William County.  Four days before the first day of service, Kaiser Permanente held a ribbon cutting ceremony with addresses from Kaiser Permanente directors and Prince William County leadership.

The new Kaiser Permanente hub includes 24/7 advanced urgent care, an outpatient surgical facility, a full featured radioimagery center, and 30 specialties including family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, behavioral health, cardiology, pain management, ophthalmology, and optometry.  The complex is LEED Silver certified, and is expected to serve ~40,000 patients and ~320,000 visits each year.

I’m sharing some highlights from covering the event and new facility here.

After the ribbon cutting events, groups of guests were taken on guided tours and allowed the opportunity to explore the new medical campus.

Turkish Airlines Business Lounge

On the final day of September, Turkish Airlines celebrated the grand opening of their new Business Lounge at Washington Dulles International Airport.  It is Turkish's first airline lounge in the United States, and is available for use by Business and Elite passengers, and Gold level Star Alliance members.

Many of my pictures of the newly opened lounge were featured in USA Today's article about the new lounge; I encourage you to read the article online here.  Here are some highlights to enjoy.

There is also a VIP Lounge on the upper level.

If you didn't read already, go check out the USA Today article, in which my photos were featured.

Michael Symon Visits Bar Symon at IAD

This past Friday the 13th, Michael Symon visited his newly opened restaurant, Bar Symon, located at Gate D14 at Washington Dulles International Airport.  Passengers and airport employees alike gathered to meet the Iron Chef and have copies of his cookbooks signed, after he flew in from that morning's taping of ABC's television show, The Chew.

Michael Symon is known for hosting The Chew, and regularly appearing on Food Network's shows, Dinner: Impossible, Iron Chef America, and as a judge on The Next Iron Chef.  Michael has published a number of cooking books, many of which are available in his restaurants, in addition to major booksellers.

Upon Michael's arrival, he was swarmed by fans looking for a an autograph, and lots of selfies.  The man is truly a pro at taking selfies.

Finally, it was time to officially open Bar Symon with a ribbon cutting after a few words.

Next, Michael took to the kitchen and bar to run the new restaurant through its paces.

After a bustling event, I had a very brief portrait session with Michael.  With just two minutes before he had to leave to catch his departing flight, I captured a few photos of Michael in front of the newly opened Bar Symon.  I lit this portrait with a single strobe through an Fstoppers Flash Disc.

And of course after a long event, Michael stopped to grab a picture with me before heading home for the weekend.  What an incredibly friendly man, with an infectious laugh, and a natural talent for great American cuisine!

Etihad at Dulles (April 2013)

Following up from Etihad Airways' sneak peek I covered in January, Dulles' newest airline celebrated its first commercial flight from Abu Dhabi to Washington, DC, and a few days later opened a new Diamond First and Business Class Lounge at Gate A14.  Individuals present for the events included Etihad President and CEO James Hogan, as well as HE Michael Corbin, US Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. The entire set can be viewed here.

My coverage from last week's events at Dulles was used in the Official Etihad Press Releases, and also ended up in anna.aero and Jeff Clabaugh's article in Washington Business Journal, among other aviation news outlets around the world.
