Tab and DD: Married December 8th, 2013

Tab and DD are a wonderful couple from Savannah, Georgia who recently called on me to photograph their wedding.  As veterinarians, they both share a love for animals.  I've talked about shooting a snow wedding for years (and I must admit I actually want one myself), but until Tab and DD I'd never gotten to.  The wedding, unfortunately, was cut very short due to the snow and ice storm which was just beginning that morning.  This also meant that, due to the inclement travel conditions, many guests were not able to join, although thanks to technology, many still joined in on Skype.

Although the weather wasn't so cooperative for friends and family to travel in, it was still very pretty for pictures.  Tab and DD's wedding was very special and unique to the DC area, since the DMV unpredictably has infrequent snowstorms.  I'm so looking forward to my next snowy wedding.

And here's a quick little outtake:  While we were shooting outside in the snow, we hadn't been in this spot even one minute, and a plow drove up the sidewalk and ruined the shot and my flat white background...

Between the cold and an impatient plow driver idling a mere couple feet behind me, we only spent a few more minutes taking pictures in the snow, as there was really no other ideal location featuring snow.  Photography is all about on-the-fly flexibility!

Chad and Bess

I first met Chad during our time in the Boy Scouts; while we haven't kept in close contact after we both earned the Rank of Eagle Scout, we have periodically kept up with each other's lives after Troop 146 - my journey into photography, and his time at Virginia Military Institute.  When Chad and Bess became engaged, Chad almost immediately contacted me to be their wedding photographer - I was more than delighted! Chad and Bess were married on July 5th, 2013 in Alexandria, Virginia in the company of family, friends, and classmates.  After a Catholic wedding ceremony, the couple, joined by loved ones, danced the Summer night away, celebrating the day "Chad and Bess love each other the least" - the best is yet to come!  "He's just Chad, and she's just Bess."

Congratulations to both of you - I wish you both the very best life has to offer!

All of Chad and Bess' wedding photos may be viewed and prints purchased here.

Final Notes:  Many of these photos were processed using VSCO's new Film 04: Slide - I think it's the best version they've released to date!  My favorite so far is the Fuji Astia 100F setting for portraits, but I also found that Fuji Velvia 100 works wonderfully on outdoor photos (so long as you boost color temperature) - this isn't shocking in the least, because these were the intended purposes of both these respective films.  And finally, this is the first blog I have posted which is compatible with HiDPI displays, such as the Apple Retina Display.  Please email me if there are any problems.

Weddings

Joshua and Erica

Joshua and Erica are a fun-loving couple from North Carolina.  On November 17th, 2012, the two were sealed and married inside Washington, DC's Latter-Day Saints Temple on a bright and sunny Fall morning.  Josh and Erica's family and friends were present to welcome the newly married couple, and celebrate the beginning of  their lasting and wonderful lives together.  Erica and Josh deeply love one another as is evident in the joy both exude just being in the same room together.  They love to be goofy, and made sure the party in Annapolis kept going strong, with the help of a cardboard cutout, and the dance moves from Gangnam Style.  As the night ended, surrounded by loved ones with sparklers, they climbed into their car and with one more kiss, they departed to begin their happy new life together. All photos may be viewed and purchased for print by visiting my client site here; ask Erica or Joshua for the password.

This was my first Mormon wedding I've ever attended or photographed, so it felt very strange not being allowed to take pictures inside the LDS Temple, when every nerve in my body is telling me I should be shooting.  It was also the first wedding I've had a wonderful assistant by my side.  I've previously second shot for other photographers, and I've double teamed for a friend's wedding, but for my own weddings, I've always shot solo.  This time, I brought along the talented Eddie Kyle to help cover the day, and help give some exposure and advice.  A few of the photos I've included below were shot by him (they are marked); all were edited by me for consistant color and style.
